WRSA is
calling on rhinoceros owners to give their full co-operation in the Rhinoceros
Horn Stockpile Verification Process announced recently by Minister of
Water and Environmental Affairs, Edna Molewa. The information gathered in this
process will assist South African authorities in preparing submissions to CITES
COP 16 on the rhino horn trade in view of potential legal trade in rhino horn.
Please read the attached letter from the Minister
Molewa, explaining the process.
Environmental Management Inspectors will visit rhino
owners to gather information. Inspections will be scheduled in advance. Mr
Eugene Swart (Deputy Director: Biodiversity Enforcement) will lead the
verification team. Rhino horn owners can phone Mr Swart on 083 412 5936 to
verify the legitimacy of the inspectors or for any queries relating to this
process.
WRSA appeals to all rhino owners to support the
DEA's verification process in the interest of protecting and conserving our
rhinos for the future.
